Dogs Are Joy Personified

What is not to love about dogs? Goofy looks, wagging tails and a tendency to roll in disgusting stuff make dog lovers laugh, when they're not trying to shampoo out the source of a mysterious smell on their dog's coat, that is. Dogs bring such joy to our lives!
Let's face it. Our dogs are our children. We spend bundles of money on the best food, the best toys, the best medical care, not to mention clothing, treats, training and doggy day care. Urban dog parks are full of dogs and their people hanging out, having a good time.
Dogs are our best companions for an evening walk. Who else will listen to our complaints after a hard day at work, never offering anything but silent support. No judgments or unwanted advice. Just friendship. Dogs simply love us and want to be by our side.
They live in the moment, do dogs, with uncomplicated curiousity and unfettered glee. Have you ever watched a dog play in the first snow of the season or chase after a frisbee toy? Do you have an hour or so? Take your dog for a walk in a park. The nose never leaves the ground. Only reluctantly will you convince your companion that it's time to move on.
Contrary to popular myth, dogs and cats really do get along; they make wonderful friends, actually, and have been known to mourn one another's death. Humans could learn something from these interspecies relationships.
Dogs raised around cats also have a better chance of adoption. People frequently choose to add dogs to their cat dominated households but don't want to risk physical attack from one to the other. Adoption agencies and animal shelters have remedied this by conducting preadoption interviews with prospective pet guardians and introducing cats to the dogs in question during the interviews. Think of how many post adoption disasters that prevents!
