What is trust rank?
The idea that Google uses some sort of trust rank in their search engine rankings is not new. This idea has been around for a while. But there is confusion. This is because Google has a patent on a term called Trust Rank that was filed many years ago for an email anti-spam process. This is often confused with a paper presented by Yahoo and some academic dudes on the topic of trust rank.
Regardless, there is wide acceptance in the SEO community that some sort of Google Trust Rank is in use. While Google treats the algo as very proprietary, many top SEOs feel that the closer your site is to a trusted site, the higher the trust rank. Closer means few hops away as measured by hyperlinks. Thus Google Trust Rank - though not confirmed, is possible in use.
