Thinking Outside the Box with Portable Storage Units

Many people assume that portable storage units are only for moving. You load them up, the company hauls them to your new house, you unload them... and thats it. However, theyre good for many more purposes. Some more colorful and less traditional uses to which you might put portable storage units are:
* Storing your belongings. Rather than wasting hours of your time waiting at the U Haul office to rent a van, loading it up fast so you dont waste rental time, driving to the storage facility, unloading it fast, and racing to get the van back before you go over time and have to pay extra, make the storage facility bring the storage cell to you. Portable storage units can sit in front of your house for a few days while you fill them at your leisure, then the company takes them away without any further effort from you. A phone call brings them back, and you can empty them without any hurry.
* Temporary on site storage. Portable storage units may have "portable" in their name, but who says they have to move? Rent a storage unit for the duration of a remodeling project, then send the unit back empty. Its less expensive and less permanent than getting a shed and offers your belongings more protection than setting up a tent.
* Mixed use. If youre doing a large remodeling project, rent portable storage units as temporary sheds. When the project is done, further improve your home by loading up one of the units with possessions that otherwise would sit in your attic or basement for a year, and send them off to the storage facility to be stored.
When you rent a portable storage unit, be creative. Youre not locked into the main use that movable storage units were developed for. If you want to use the unit right on your lawn, go ahead. If youd rather use it for storage than for moving, go ahead. Theyre temporary storage sheds, storage cubes with their own built in moving van, moving vans with their own built in storage cubes...
