Strumming Saturdays Video 09
Acoustic Guitar Training made straightforward!
In this episode of Strumming Saturdays we're going to completely radically change the rhythm we looked at last week by simply adding a tie.
It's quite impressive how different the rhythm sounds when you have 2 successive upstrokes.
So rather than playing DUDUD D we are now playing DU UD D. The rhythm now sounds more open and the 2 successive upstrokes creates a bit of regular interest.
There is not a lot wrong with last week's rhythm but infrequently a song wants a different approach when it comes to strumming.
Changing basic rhythms thru the usage of ties, rests or spook notes will permit you to come up with some interesting strumming patterns and adaptations.
The key however is to play a rhythm that fits in with the overall groove and feel of the song and supports the tune well.
As guitar players we usually end up sounding far more convincing when we play something that benefits the tune in opposition to just playing what we'd like.
Here's The Rub
So that sort of brings me to this point. We need to develop the required talents to adapt to different musical circumstances and play whatever it's that will serve the tune the very best.
That's not something that you learn in an instant, instead it's a extremely valuable skill that is developed over years. The more that you can play with other musicians the better.
After all the data gained from these acoustic guitar lessons doesn't truly mean anything unless it's applied properly.
So there you have it. Add this strumming pattern to your rhythmical inventory and go and play with some other musicians.
