Modifying remote installs with mst files

The built in installer service on the most popular window-based operating system has many built in features to facilitate the administration of the computer. Part of that functionality involves the ability to remotely manage the system in various ways, from logging onto the computer from another console to the ability to control policies and remotely deploy applications. The remote deployment of applications is a tricky task sometimes depending on how well the installer package works with group policies. If an admin is intending to deploy an application without the assistance of a third party system that can push the application, then the application should be deployed by the use of msi installer packages. Once the installer packages have been selected for deployment, there may be cases where the installer must be customized for different applications within a company and the unique needs of different users or user groups.
By creating mst files that will accompany an associated msi installer package, the installation can tweaked to suit varied purposes. The mst files created for each installer can be unlimited. These mst files can modify the base installer by many factors, adjusting settings and making the software being deployed conform to focused needs. There are certainly no absolute needs for mst files to perform a bulk deployment, but the use of such files do indeed have their purpose and is generally dictated by the software being installed. There are some applications that have very little in the way of installation options, but others may have settings that mst files can customize. In some cases, mst files can be used to suppress the actions of the installer, such as a progress bar or typical prompts. It is the flexibility lent by mst files that makes their use during software deployment a useful benefit.
