Fingerpicking Friday Video 07
Acoustic Guitar Lessons made straightforward! Fingerpicking Fri. Yet one more video from our straightforward acoustic guitar training series. In this video we'll look at how you can re-purpose an existing fingerpicking pattern we've looked at before and create a completely different sound. I can also show you 4 cool chords!
Essentially what's happening here is I've used the PAMI fingerpicking pattern but I have changed the strings I'm playing it on, as well as the chord shapes.
When you play the fingerpicking pattern on this string grouping you'll get a very different sound than when you play fingers I, M & An on strings 1, 2 and 3.
That implies all of the patterns you have learned how to date can be applied to this new string grouping. Kind of cool huh?
Well, they're from my Killer Chords electronic book and as you have probably heard they sound amazing.
The first chord is E Major add 9. This is basically simply an E chord with the 9th degree added. Don't sweat the idea, just enjoy it. If it's a bit difficult to reach, no worries. Leave it for later and just play a basic E as an alternative.
The subsequent chord is an Fm11. I really like the sound of minor 11 chords and this particular voicing is really easy to play. After that we've got an Asus2 which is the same fingering as Fm11 except for one note.
Then we have Bsus4 and Cm7 which are both the same shape. Remember that you can use these shapes with your strumming patterns too, in reality I encourage it!
