Fingerpicking Fri. Video 08
Acoustic Guitar Lessons made simple! [Fingerpicking Friday] In this episode of Fingerpicking Fri. I have utilized a chord sequence from a prior lesson with what I call the"All Grab" technique.
This just means that I grab all of the strings at the same time rather than playing the classic arpeggio/broken chord style fingerpicking.
I also went a step farther and added a percussive hit on beats 2 and 4 for that added spice. Take a look at the video below.

Cool isn't it? The cool thing about this approach is that you are literally playing all the notes of the chord concurrently and that sounds quite different to strumming for two reasons.
1. When you strum a chord the notes are sounded one after the other as your pick travels across the strings. 2. When you strum the chords you also get the sound of the pick which isn't the case with the"All Grab" system.
When it comes to playing the guitar and creating music it's all about expression at the end of the day. The more tactics you have to play a chord or a chunk of music, the more lively you can be.
To date we've looked at basic strumming patterns and then added ties, rests and ghost notes. We've looked at basic fingerpicking patterns as well as this"All Grab" methodology. That alone should add some variety to your playing.
Just remember that ata the end of the day these methodologies are just alternative approaches and the one you'll finish up selecting will finally rely on the tune. Don't fall into the mistake of just employing a methodology for technique's sake. Make it count and make sure it serves a purpose!
