Blogging Blogging Like You Mean It

There is no longer any doubt that blogging has captured the worlds imagination like few other Internet phenomenon have before or since. In spite of the many positive aspects that blogging has brought upon us, it has also serve to highlight the fact that so many bloggers appear to have disregarded common blogging etiquette in the pursuit of higher readership. This should be readily apparent to anyone who has been a frequent blog reader for the past several years. Blogging is as much a privilege as it is a right, and it will only serve the blogging community as a whole if everyone keeps a few simple things in mind.
Blogging is a unique means of expression in itself, and that what was once a fairly invalided audience has now transcended geographical boundaries to encompass the rest of the world. Although you may still adopt a personal tone if you wish, remember that other people who may not readily understand your tone or your delivery may read your blog.
Blogging was originally used as a way for people to get their thoughts out on the Internet regardless of how trivial or insignificant they may seem to be. There is certainly nothing stopping you from doing the same today if you wish, although you can hardly expect everyone who comes across your blog to be interested in the minutiae of your day to day life. You may therefore want to start blogging about more things that would be interesting to your readers, instead of merely blogging about what you had for lunch!
You should strive to write from a position of authority. You will greatly increase the chances of your blogs success if the subject that you are writing about is something that you are passionate about or at least have some degree of familiarity in. While no one is expecting you to know every single thing there is to know about your chosen niche, you should at the very least be in possession of a bit more knowledge and/or experience than the majority of your readers. Keep in mind that your readers will gradually come to depend on your blog as a source of information that they cannot get anywhere else, and being knowledgeable in your niche would ensure your reputation as a person of authority.
Ripping off other peoples content is a no no. Even if you have nothing to post on your blog for a few days, this is still a lot better than stealing content from someone else. Keep the golden rule in mind, and dont rip off content if you dont want other people ripping off content from you!
Lastly, do not take advantage of your anonymity on the Internet. Even if you are writing under a pseudonym, there is a possibility that your blog will be traced back to you someday. It is therefore important to make sure that you do not engage in any online behavior that is at odds with your actions in the real world.
