Awnings And Canopies – Knowing The Difference
Although canopies and awnings may serve similar purpose – to give shelter, they do have clear differences. One major distinction is that a canopy is a free standing covering while an awning is positioned as an exterior door or window extension. Both of them are often made of similar durable material which enables them to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Most canopies that are not in use can be removed and disassembled but fixed awnings are installed permanently especially if they are set up as covering on the side walk and at the entrance of a building. The only chance that fixed awnings can be moved is that if it is to be replaced by a new one.
Awnings can sometimes be referred as canopies if they extend very long from the side of a building and if they are used to cover leisure areas for people. It’s seldom that individuals think of an awning for a free-standing canopy set up. Canopies can be moved and used to provide shade at some areas like park, beach or any outdoor activities.
Retractable awning is one kind of awning that can be moved to get different shade levels. This type of awning can be extended over the exterior area of a house or a building. Residential patios and outdoor dining areas benefit a lot from them. However, there are still movable and fixed patio canopies available. Since canopies are not directly adjacent to a house or a building, they can be moved on a certain spot on the lawn or other area.
